Remember Prey on the Xbox 360 and PC? I do, because I played it briefly although I didn’t care enough to finish it. It was a game that was announced in 1995 and took years to finish before ultimately seeing a release in the Summer of 2006. Given the involvement of 3D Realms, it’s probably no surprise — they’re certainly no strangers to overly ambitious projects that take years to fully realize (ahem, Duke Nukem Forever).
Unlike Duke Nukem Forever which would be released years later however, the reception of Prey was pretty good. So good in fact, they eventually planned a sequel. Like the original game though, the sequel ended up in development hell after being officially announced three years prior in 2011, and now according to Pete Hines, it’s been cancelled. Ouch.
